Our Work in Action: Youth Sports Programs in Kwale

Where passion meets purpose — discover how youth sports in Kwale transform lives across Kwale County through programs and campaigns.

Safety First Program for Youth Sports in Kwale

Safety First

The Safety First initiative, launched on December 6, 2023, aims to address sports-related injuries in Kwale County. In partnership with Base Titanium, Kenya Red Cross, and FKF Kwale, we trained 16 athletes from 8 local teams. The program focuses on improving first aid knowledge, providing essential equipment, and creating policies to ensure a safer sports environment.

The initiative also promotes women’s sports and aims to bridge the gender funding gap. Research revealed a significant lack of first aid awareness and inadequate sports facilities and equipment. Key recommendations include better training, safer playing environments, and comprehensive health records for athletes.

Women in Sports

TWALENGA Women in Sports

Launched on April 29, 2023 at Swahili Beach Resort, Twalenga champions women’s participation and leadership in sports through mentorships and coaching clinics. Partnered with Rowan McKellar, a British Olympian, we’re building confident young women leaders.

Sports Nutrition

Sports Nutrition

Our Sports Nutrition program equips athletes and their families with vital knowledge on how proper diet fuels athletic performance, boosts endurance, and enhances recovery. We focus on the specific nutritional needs of sports participants by offering cooking demos using local, energy-rich ingredients, customized meal plans tailored to training goals, and nutrition workshops in schools and sports clubs. By promoting affordable, locally sourced foods, we ensure that every athlete from grassroots to elite can access the fuel they need to train harder, perform better, and recover faster.

Sports Tourism

Sports Tourism

The Sports Tourism program merges sport with culture and conservation. We support tournaments along Kwale’s stunning beaches and historic sites, attracting teams from across Kenya. These events boost local tourism, create jobs, and promote cultural exchange. By combining competition with travel, we showcase Kwale’s natural beauty while stimulating economic development.

Save Our Sables

The Save Our Sables campaign is a community initiative to protect the endangered Roosevelt Sable Antelope found only in Shimba Hills, Kwale.

“The Sable is not just an animal. It is a living memory, a breath of the wild soul of Kwale.”
Sports Safety

Sports Safety Campaign

After the three-day Safety First session, we came to a clear realization that more needs to be done to protect our young athletes.

Moving forward, the Sports Safety Campaign will take a broader, more collaborative approach. We are bringing together coaches, schools, health professionals, and community leaders to address every stage of sports injuries: how to prevent them, how to respond when they happen, and how to support recovery and rehabilitation afterward.

Because safety doesn’t end when the whistle blows, it’s a responsibility we carry at every level of sport.

“When a child steps onto the field, they should feel excited, not at risk. Safety is not optional, it’s essential.”
— Local Coach, Safety First Workshop
